Finite element analysis of locking vs. Non-locking plates in Le Fort I osteotomy fixation

Introduction: The aim of this study is to analyze the difference in biomechanical stability in maxillary advancement by Le Fort I osteotomy, between locking and non-locking plates using the finite element method. Methods: Using the SolidWorks software (Dessault Systems SolidWorks Corp., Waltham, MA, EUA), we performed the scanning and modeling of a frontal orbital skull made of polyurethane, as well as the locking and non-locking plates. Advance plate models with 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mm were...

Beyond genioplasty: revisiting the mandible in gender-affirming facial surgery
Beyond genioplasty: revisiting the mandible in gender-affirming facial surgery

While genioplasty is commonly performed to reduce chin prominence, it often neglects the mandibular structure, potentially resulting in an undesired square appearance and contributing to gender-related dysphoria. Case Report: We present the case of a 20-year-old transgender woman who underwent revision surgery following an unsatisfactory genioplasty....
